Introduction:
Sleep is needed for high school students

  • The body's time to restart and helps immune system along with memorization
  • When I wake up super early I can't function the same as I would if I had more time to sleep
  • Athletes in high school
  • sleep deprivation
Transition: Lets take a look at how mental illness can occur to not enough sleep and the benefits of having the right amount of sleep

Body:
main point 2: some high schools already have something called "late start" which means they start school a little later on specific days.
  • My high school had late starts on thursday's where our school started at 9:20
  • I would notice how much happier and ready every one was for school
  • there are stats to show this improved the health of students

main point 1: mental illness such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, etc.
  • when the body doesn't get to boost the brain mental illnesses can occur
  • sleep deprivation makes it not possible to gain memorization of things learned in school
students have a lot going on after school such as athletics, family obligations, jobs, etc.

  1. After reading your proposal argument outline I can see that you provide an interesting point of view on how we should push back times for high schoolers. Of course the proposal definently needs more research and a bit more writing to truly describe the point of view of where you're getting your main points. Also I do see you have a very concrete start which is always good, and I do look forward to listening to your speech or proposal argument.

My topic is going to be how school is affected by amount of sleep. In high school we woke up at 6 am every day and didn't have enough sleep to function throughout the day. In college however, people are able to sleep longer making their moods lifted and their studies better. I want to see the difference in peoples moods and school work to see if sleep affects that. 1. Do you feel that your mood is affected by sleep? 2. Do you feel that when you sleep longer its better for your school work? I am going to research about high school students mainly because that's where this issue is a bigger problem but I also want to tie in college students because we are also affected and can be the main answer to this question since we are able to wake up later.
