Who is the audience you write to? 
other staff members, individual contributors, leaders and senior leaders, 

How important do you feel writing is in your field? 
very because you have to make a point without coming across unprofessional or without sounding negative. people perceive an email differently than if you were talking to them face to face. You have to use careful language. 

What are some types of writing you do? 
email, presentations, assessments to team members on their performance, one on one sessions with team members. coaching feedback.

How do you prepare for the writing? collect data, articulate things that team members do well and things they need help with. He prepares by thinking about how that certain person will understand what he's saying and perceive it. 

How often do you have to write?
every day, 

What is your writing for? 
feedback, in the moment coaching, progress, emails are for open communication to members across country. figure out how they write differently for each piece they write- thinking about the audience and who he's writing to and the information he wants to share to them and then formulates the proper message based on those two components. 

Is the majority of your writing academic or non-academic? 
non-academic

First Assignment due 8/22

For this assignment I understand that we will be learning about how to write in the context of our intended fields of study. Interviewing people who have already gone through the field know what they're doing and are able to help better understand what you need to know and how you need to write according to what they do. The reason for looking at other pieces of writing and analyzing them is to better understand what they did good and bad so that you learn from their writing and create a strong piece of writing. For example, in my english class in high school we always looked at good pieces of writing and took away the best parts of the piece so that we could use that as an outline almost for our own writing. This helped so much because you're able to see strong pieces of writing but also poor pieces and learn what not to do.
